Aralin sa Panghalip na Pamatlig

This 6-page pdf lesson below is on Filipino demonstrative pronouns  or panghalip na pamatlig.  Included are three sets of demonstrative pronouns: (1) ito, iyan, iyon; (2) nito, niyan, niyon; and (3) dito/rito, diyan/riyan, doon/roon. Aralin sa Panghalip na Pamatlig According to Paul Schachter and Fe T. Otanes in their book Tagalog Reference Grammar, these demonstrative pronouns are also called deictic pronouns. This means that the full meaning of the pronoun depends on the context in which it is used. Choosing the appropriate Filipino pronoun for a specific situation depends on the location of the referent noun relative to the speaker and the person being addressed. The important thing to remember about pronouns is that they are used in place of nouns or noun phrases, or they're used to replace nouns or noun phrases.  If you can use the word to replace a noun or noun phrase, then the word is…

Aralin at Worksheets sa Kasarian ng Pangngalan

Aralin sa Kasarian ng Pangngalan The pdf lesson above describes the four kinds of Filipino gender (kasarian) nouns, which are masculine nouns (pangngalang panlalaki), feminine nouns (pangngalang pambabae), common nouns (pangngalang di-tiyak ang kasarian), and neuter nouns (pangngalang walang kasarian).  Because there are so many neuter nouns, only a list of Filipino masculine, feminine, and common nouns are provided in the lesson. The lesson also provides a table with many examples of Filipino masculine nouns and their corresponding feminine nouns (for example, ama at ina, lolo at lola, kuya at ate,etc.).  This table shows that many such nouns are borrowed from the Spanish language. You may be wondering why nouns like doktor and doktora were not included in the list of masculine-feminine noun pairs. It is because people still use the word doktor for either a male or female doctor. Only doktora (female doctor) is gender-specific. The five worksheets and…

Aralin sa Pagbubuo ng Salita (Maylapi)

I was not good at Filipino.  As a student, when I had to write a Filipino essay, I would first write it in English, and then translate it in Filipino.  The English-Filipino dictionary was an invaluable tool for me.  In college, my friend would often correct my Filipino (“Itago, hindi taguin.”) When my daughter was very young and was only beginning to speak in Filipino, she would use English affixes with Filipino words.  When asked what she was doing to an object,  she replied “Mom, I’m only ganyaning it.”  (She added the sufifix –ing to the Filipino word ganyan.) Below is the third installment to the lesson on Pagbubuo ng mga Salita.  The first one was on Mga Salitang Inuulit.  The second was about Tambalang Salita or Filipino compound words.  This 15-page pdf file provides many examples of Filipino words that have affixes (unlapi, gitlapi, hulapi, kabilaan, laguhan).  There are…
