Mga Hanapbuhay (Part 1)

Some time ago, a reader asked me if I had materials on community helpers in Filipino. I replied that I did not have any worksheets on that topic because it would take some time to make the necessary illustrations. I decided to purchase clip art images online, but I realized that it was necessary to illustrate my own so as to show what Filipinos in different professions look like.

Below is the link to an 8-page PDF file that can be printed to make a booklet that is half the size of a short bond paper. It has images of 13 different Filipino professions and a short description for each. The text may be used to practice reading in Filipino and the student can color the illustrations.

On the last page of the booklet, the student is asked to draw himself or herself with the job he or she wishes to have in the future. The student is also asked to write why he or she chose this profession.

To create the booklet, follow the instructions below. The page numbers refer to the page numbers of the PDF file, not the numbers on the booklet pages.

  1. Print pages 1 and 2 back-to-back.
  2. Print pages 3 and 4 back-to-back.
  3. Print pages 5 and 6 back-to-back.
  4. Print pages 7 and 8 back-to-back.
  5. Fold the pages in half (crosswise).
  6. Arrange the pages in order. Use the page numbers on the upper corners of the booklet pages as guides.
  7. Staple the pages together.

The doctor, nurse, and firefighter clip art images are from Little Red’s Clip Art. Check out their online stores below.
